A BIT OF TROPIC
OUTSIDE THE DELTA SHOP-RITE

Bright-eyed love bird
far from  home,
hopping on the truck's dash while
carbon monoxide plumes
in the  parking lot.

Feathered exile,
someone's green necessity
so near
the Arctic Circle.
A miner's canary

in the snowy dusk
of icy November.
Proof that somewhere
flowers do perfume
the balmy air.
