MODERATION

Not that I minded
the squirrels
climbing the bird feeder

to gorge on seeds
(the supply
after all is inexhaustible)

but when they started
gnawing wood
in their rapaciousness I

clipped a conical metal
collar around
the pole and now

they forage for spillage
appearing to
bear me no grudge.
