Gains & Losses

The Cruelest Month
after Theodore Roethke

I know the dolor
of unappreciated assets,

lament of losses
never to be offset by gains.

Failed eros of early withdrawals
and unexercised options,

the limitations of the passive;
they shall inherit the earth.

Pathos of safe harbors,
the angst of puts and calls,

and that often phased-out
credit called Hope.
