MUSSELS AND MANGOES

satisfying a hunger
is as simple as steamed mussels in a clay pot
steeped in hot broth
of cayenne, garlic, and wine

simple as
a sunned mango
splayed open
orange flesh soft to the fingertip
rose petals and honey dripping on the tongue

mussels
and mangoes
swelling with juices of oceans and island rains --
savor
taste of fruit and sea and spice
fusion of nectar, lip
tooth
brine
