John L. Platt

INSIDE OUT REFRAIN

Savor the sugar in the lemon
and the fragrance of roses in skid-row alleys.
See the meaning in the spaces that separate words,
listen to the dip between waves.
Touch the skin of air.

The mind moves ahead,
the heart catches up.
Hearts move ahead, minds catch up.

The circle circles.
Falling leaves cover grave stones,
graves feed the trees.

Savor the sugar in the lemon
and the fragrance of roses in skid-row alleys.
See the meaning in the spaces that separate words,
listen to the dip between waves.
Touch the skin of air.
