Waterslain
-after Kevin Crossley-Holland

Remember the moonlight linger
where seacoal bones lay
saltwater licking the last of the windowlight

Driftwood chains wrapped
around their indigo hearth
windy in its amber mooring

Gulls swinging like corks
in the zinc easterlies
howling against earth's flicker

Children dying of thirst
Aegir's scurf glittering
their webbed skin
